Who we are

Bluestem Equine & Livestock Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located on forty rolling acres in the tallgrass prairie of Kansas. Our organization is dedicated to the rehabilitation, education, community, and adoption of at-risk horses and livestock.

Education lies at the heart of our mission — building the trust, confidence, and foundation needed for sound training, responsible handling, and lasting connections between animals and the people who care for them. What began as a vision focused on livestock management and care has grown into a nonprofit devoted to helping animals — and people — find new purpose and understanding.

We provide a clear pathway from rescue to readiness. Each animal entering the program receives individualized care including veterinary treatment, proper nutrition, farrier work, and behavioral rehabilitation. Once healthy, they transition into our training and development program, where each receives specialized instruction tailored to their unique needs and abilities. This stage focuses on rebuilding trust, refining handling skills, and laying the groundwork for lasting success. From pasture pet to event horse, our goal is to give every animal the tools and foundation needed to build meaningful partnerships and find secure, lifelong homes.

Bluestem also serves as a hub for education and outreach, offering hands-on learning opportunities that strengthen the bond between people and animals. Through workshops, clinics, and volunteer programs, we promote responsible ownership and foster connection, compassion, and skill throughout the community.

Collaboration is central to our work. We partner with veterinarians, farriers, trainers, local agencies, and volunteers to ensure animals in need receive timely, effective, and compassionate care. Our adoption program focuses on placing rehabilitated animals with qualified adopters and providing continued guidance to help each match succeed long-term.
