Our Story

Bluestem Equine & Livestock was founded to provide skilled rehabilitation, training, and responsible placement for horses and livestock in need of a second chance. Located in the tallgrass prairie of Kansas, our work combines practical horsemanship, veterinary care, and education to help animals recover and prepare for lasting partnerships with people.

Bluestem Equine & Livestock was founded out of a recognition that many rural communities lack the resources needed to rehabilitate horses and livestock when they fall into unsafe or unstable situations.

Located in the tallgrass prairie of Kansas, Bluestem provides knowledgeable care, rehabilitation, and training for animals in need of a second chance. The organization was built on a foundation of practical horsemanship, livestock stewardship, and the belief that responsible animal care requires both skill and patience.

Each animal entering Bluestem receives individualized attention that may include veterinary care, nutritional rehabilitation, farrier work, and structured handling designed to rebuild confidence and trust. Once stabilized, animals begin a training and development process that prepares them for safe interaction with people and long-term success in their future homes.

Bluestem’s mission extends beyond rehabilitation. Education plays a central role in the organization’s work, with a focus on promoting responsible horse ownership, livestock management, and community awareness of issues affecting equine welfare.
