Animals arrive at Bluestem through owner surrender, community referrals, or emergency situations. When appropriate, we work alongside local agencies to provide temporary care and stabilization for horses or livestock requiring immediate placement. Each intake begins with a thorough evaluation so we can address urgent needs and begin planning the animal’s path forward.

Recovery starts with proper nutrition, veterinary care, farrier work, and consistent daily handling. Our focus is rebuilding physical health while helping animals regain confidence and trust.

Once stable, animals begin groundwork and handling designed to prepare them for safe partnerships with people. Education and thoughtful training give each animal the best chance at a lasting future.

Adoption is the final step in the Bluestem program. We carefully match each animal with adopters who have the knowledge, environment, and commitment needed to support them long-term.
